Formed deep within the earth’s crust, Zircon is the world’s oldest known mineral dating back some 4.4 billion years and is used to help scientists tell the story of earth's formation.
Coming in a wide spectrum of colours Zircon is highly refractive giving it a brilliance and sparkly fire that saw it confused with diamonds for centuries. Although found in a number of countries including Sri Lanka, Mozambique and South Africa, the oldest Zircon specimens are found here in Australia in the Jack Hills region of Western Australia.
